Railroad Crossings Closures & Upgrades Project
This project is the result of a joint effort with MoDOT and the Canadian Pacific Kansas City RR to improve the safety and drivability of the railroad crossings located within the city of Marshall. Once completed the project will result in the closure of the Benton, English, and Jefferson railroad crossings and the repair and upgrade of the Lyon, Boyd, Miami, and Odell crossings. The upgraded crossings will be equipped with flashing light signals, gates, and audible bells in order to make the crossings safer overall. Input was garnered from our Police Dept., Fire Dept., Ambulance District, business owners, and the community at large to determine which crossings to close and which to repair. Some of the factors that lead to those decisions were determining the least used crossings, the suitability of the crossings as emergency routes, and the state of repair/disrepair each crossing was in. If you have any questions please feel free to email info@marshall-mo.com.
*Please note that the original completion date listed on the MoDOT Agreements for all railroad closure and improvement projects was April 2023, however that date has been delayed. Also note that the agreements refer to the Kansas City Southern Railway Co. as a partner, however that railway was acquired by the Canadian Pacific in 2021 and is now known as the Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railroad.
